Denton, Caroline’s county seat and main business center, is located in the center of the county surrounded by nine other towns: Federalsburg, Preston, Ridgely, Greensboro, Goldsboro, Marydel, Templeville, Henderson and Hillsboro. Each offers their own unique characteristics and charm and are within a 1 ½ hour drive from the major metropolitan areas of Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia.
Given its rural makeup, Caroline is a great place for biking and kayaking enthusiasts. For bikers the county offers 8 unique courses for every level of experience. With the pristine Choptank and Tuckahoe Rivers and the Marshy Hope Creek, paddlers can experience the beauty of nature to their hearts content.
Caroline County is extremely proud to be one of the major areas for the soon to be unveiled Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway. Freedom seekers found shelter and assistance in Caroline County as they traveled along the Underground Railroad to Delaware. You can explore by foot and by car the history and the lore of Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass and others.
