    Shore Legal Access (SLA) is a Maryland nonprofit connecting Eastern Shore individuals and families in need of legal representation with volunteer attorneys to ensure that justice truly is for all. Shore Legal Access makes the law accessible to Eastern Shore residents facing challenges in civil legal matters, including family law, life and estate planning, consumer debt, landlord/tenant matters, and criminal record expungement. Its staff and volunteer attorneys empower individuals and families to resolve legal issues while helping those new to the law understand their role in advocating for their individual rights and responsibilities. Clients of Shore Legal Access walk away with an attorney in their corner, connections to community services, and a new perspective on the law.
     

    Job Summary
    Shore Legal Access seeks an energetic, positive, and compassionate Administrative Assistant to join the Salisbury team. The Administrative Assistant provides essential administrative and operational support to ensure the effective delivery of legal services. This role is often the first point of contact for clients and plays a key part in supporting attorneys, case managers, and leadership while maintaining a welcoming, organized, and client-focused office environment. This position provides an exciting opportunity to learn about nonprofit organizations, legal aid work, and community services.  The annual salary range for this position is $40,000 to $45,000. This is an in-person Full-Time position based in Shore Legal Access’ dynamic Salisbury office. The position entails in-person responsibilities Monday-Thursday 9 am – 4 pm, and option for remote work on Fridays. The Administrative Assistant reports to the Advancement Director.     Job Responsibilities
     
    Front desk and visitor reception: Provide a welcoming and caring atmosphere for clients, volunteers, and community partners visiting the office. Serve as the backup for phone reception, which involves responding to incoming calls and directly clients to the appropriate staff person or referring to other partners. 
     
    Administrative support: Provide general clerical duties including copying, scanning, filing, and data entry. Prepare correspondence, handle mail, and assist with document management. Support the Advancement Director with administrative tasks related to grant reporting, data management, and quality control for case files. Support attorneys and case managers with administrative tasks as needed.
     
    Office operations: Provide general office support, including ordering supplies and maintaining office organization.
     
    Communication and coordination: Coordinate office coverage during the times the office is open to the public, serve as a liaison between staff, clients, and volunteers, relay messages accurately and promptly, assist with logistics for new employees or interns. 
     
     Qualifications
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills and experience working with diverse populations.
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; associates degree, relevant coursework, other experience. Undergraduate or associate degree in humanities, social science, social work, or related field OR experience working full-time at a non-profit, service agency, small business or a related field.
    • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office and case management or database systems.
    • Fluency in Spoken and Written Spanish and/or Haitian Creole preferred, as this is an advantage for effective communication with diverse clients.
    • Cultural competency and ability to work effectively with diverse communities. Experience working with individuals who are Limited English Proficient (LEP) is a plus.
    • Training or experience with providing trauma-informed services is helpful.
    • Demonstrated commitment to social justice work, confidentiality, and client services. 
    • Up to date COVID-19 vaccinations required.
