Caroline County Council of Arts Announces October Programs and Classes at The Foundry and Online
DENTON, MD — The Caroline County Council of Arts invites the community to enjoy a full October lineup of creative programs, hands-on workshops, writing groups, youth music opportunities, and a special art exhibit at The Foundry Art Gallery and online.
Programs will take place throughout the month at The Foundry Art Gallery, 401 Market St., Denton, MD, as well as virtually through Zoom. October offerings include drawing, wearable art, mindful garden design, creative writing, youth music, and a group art exhibit exploring the connection between color, creativity, and wellness.
Registration is required for select programs, and space may be limited for in-person workshops.
October Program Highlights
The Healing Spectrum: Color & Wellness Friday, October 23, 2026, 3:00–6:00 PM | The Foundry Art Gallery | Free admission
The Foundry will host The Healing Spectrum: Color & Wellness, a unique group art exhibit exploring the relationship between color, creativity, and mental wellness. Local artists have been invited to create monochromatic artwork inspired by a specific color of the visible spectrum, with the works arranged throughout the gallery as a colorful journey through the rainbow.
Seven Secrets of Drawing: “Artist Tricks for Better Drawing” with Petrea Saturday, October 3, 2026, 11:30 AM–1:00 PM | The Foundry Art Gallery | Ages 16 and up | $25 per person
Participants will discover seven simple artist techniques designed to improve drawing, observation, and sketching skills in a relaxed and supportive setting. All materials are provided.
Spooky Bottle Decor Workshop: Paint, Pumpkins & Halloween Fun with Rachel Lauren
Saturday, October 17, 2026, 12:00–2:00 PM | The Foundry Art Gallery | $25 per person
Rachel Lauren will guide participants in transforming two wine bottles into festive Halloween decorations during this hands-on seasonal workshop. Participants will paint pumpkin-themed designs and personalize each bottle with fall leaves, flowers, and decorative accents. All materials are provided, no experience is needed, and participants may take their finished bottles home to add fairy lights for a Halloween glow.
Paint Your Jeans, T-Shirts, Leather Bags, Belts & More! with Joanne Gelles Friday, October 9, 2026, 6:00–8:00 PM | The Foundry Art Gallery | $30 per person
Artist Joanne Gelles will lead a fun Friday evening fabric painting workshop where participants can transform clean clothing and accessories, including jeans, T-shirts, leather bags, belts, purses, and more. The October theme will feature spiders, bugs, and other spooky designs, though participants are welcome to create flowers, patterns, or original artwork. Participants may bring up to three items to paint. All ages are welcome.
Mini Mindful Air Plant Zen Garden with Concetta Gibson Saturday, October 10, 2026, 12:00–2:00 PM | The Foundry Art Gallery | All ages welcome | $22 per participant
Concetta Gibson of Leaf & Bed Garden Design & Coaching and Oak Branch Grove Nature Art will guide participants in creating a mini air plant zen garden using stones, sand, and an air plant. Participants will also learn a simple five-minute mindfulness practice and receive air plant care tips. All materials are provided, and a care sheet is included.
Find Your Intention: Meditative Painting with Mary Elizabeth Atwood Saturday, October 24, 2026, 1:00–2:30 PM | The Foundry Art Gallery | Ages 16 and up | $30 per person
Mary Elizabeth Atwood will lead participants through a reflective workshop combining mindfulness and creativity. During the session, participants will uncover a personal intention or guiding word and bring it to life on canvas using color, texture, and expressive techniques. No painting experience is necessary, and all materials are provided.
Teen Writers’ Club Virtual sessions via Zoom | First Monday of every month at 7:00 PM | Ages 13–18
Teen Writers’ Club offers young writers a supportive online community for discussion, writing prompts, dedicated writing time, sharing sessions, and peer feedback. Poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and works in progress are welcome. Registration is required by emailing marybeth.bishop@verizon.net.
Write On! Virtual sessions via Zoom | 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 6:30 PM | Free
Write On! is a free online writers’ group for adults that meets twice monthly in a supportive environment where participants may listen, write, or share their work. October topics include “Charm” on October 6 and “Power” on October 20. Pre-registration is required by 3:00 PM on the day of the meeting to receive the Zoom link. Crescendo Club 1st and 3rd Wednesdays, 5:00–6:00 PM | The Foundry, Denton, MD | Middle school students | $60/month or $30 per session
Crescendo Club, part of the Music in Caroline initiative, gives middle school musicians a creative space to learn new music, explore their instruments, collaborate with peers, and gain opportunities to perform for the community. The club is open to public and homeschool students.
