CHESTERTOWN, MD — Church Hill Theatre (CHT), a cornerstone of the regional arts community for nearly a century, is officially opening its call for nominations to the Board of Directors. As the theatre looks toward its 2026-2029 term, the Nominating Committee is seeking community-minded leaders to help guide the organization’s strategic vision and long-term sustainability.
Dedicated to providing quality performance and educational opportunities to a diverse rural population, Church Hill Theatre operates out of its iconic, historic Art Deco landmark. The Board of Directors serves as the backbone of this mission, ensuring that the theatre remains a vibrant hub for creativity, self-esteem building, and cultural accessibility.
"At Church Hill Theatre, our mission has always been to foster a love for the performing arts through a variety of offerings," says Sharon Herz, Nominating Committee Chair. "To continue this work, we need a Board of Directors that is as passionate and dedicated as the artists on our stage. We are looking for individuals ready to 'cast the next chapter' of our story."
Seeking Specialized Expertise
While CHT welcomes applicants from all backgrounds, the Nominating Committee has identified specific areas of need for the upcoming term. Professionals with experience in the following fields are strongly encouraged to apply:
● Grants, Finance & Accounting
● Marketing & Public Relations
● Facilities & Construction (specifically relating to historic preservation)
● Legal & Risk Management
● Theatrical Operations (Costumes/Props)
Commitment to the Community
Board members serve a three-year term, during which they attend monthly board meetings, participate in at least one standing committee, and support CHT productions as a volunteer. This role offers a unique opportunity to directly impact the cultural landscape of the Maryland Eastern Shore.
