From Kennels to Couch: Shelter Slumber Pawty Helps Longest-Stay Dog Find a Home
Caroline County Humane Society raises over $51,000 through unique overnight fundraising
    experience

RIDGELY, MD — [May 1st, 2026] — The Caroline County Humane Society recently hosted its
annual Shelter Slumber Pawty, part of a national fundraising initiative that invites participants
to spend 24 hours at the shelter alongside its animals raising awareness, funds, and meaningful
    connections along the way.

For those who take part, the experience is more than just a fundraiser. Participants step into the
daily lives of shelter animals, sleeping in kennels with dogs or spending time in the cat area
while taking part in enrichment activities, games, and quiet moments that reflect what life in a
    shelter can feel like.

This year’s event brought together a passionate group of supporters who raised funds by
reaching out to their own friends, families, and networks. In total, 509 donors contributed
$51,444, demonstrating the power of community-driven giving and shared purpose.
The impact of that support was felt almost immediately.

Dusky, the shelter’s longest-stay dog and a central part of this year’s Slumber Pawty, was
adopted shortly after the event concluded. After spending more than two years in the shelter’s
care, his long-awaited adoption became a powerful example of how visibility, connection, and
community support can change an animal’s future.

“There’s so much I love about participating in the Shelter Slumber Pawty but there are also
things that break my heart. Of course the cuddles are the best and who doesn’t love a dog in
jammies? But when all the fun is over leaving is the hardest part. Every dog has a different
story, a different background and a different personality but they all deserve the same thing…a
chance to be loved and have a family to call their own.” - Linda Palmer (Slumber Pawty
    Participant)

“We are so grateful to our community for their support of this event,” said Stephanie Flower,
Executive Director of Caroline County Humane Society. “From the participants who raised funds
and spent the night, to every person who donated or shared their story, this event truly shows
what can happen when people come together for animals in need.”

With continued support from the community, the Shelter Slumber Pawty will keep creating
life-changing moments for pets still waiting for their chance just like Dusky.
