December 16, 2025Centreville, MD — Compass Regional Hospice is proud to announce the receipt of a $30,000 grant from the Rural Maryland Council (RMC), along with the generous support of a matching donor who helped make this project possible. Together, this funding allowed us to purchase new, fully adjustable beds for the Barnette Hospice Center—directly enhancing the comfort and quality of care we provide to patients and their families. We are extremely grateful for this incredible support, which strengthens our mission and helps us continue improving the quality of life for those we serve.
The new beds will replace aging equipment and feature advanced mobility, positioning, and safety functions designed specifically to meet the unique needs of hospice patients. These improvements not only promote the comfort, dignity, and well-being of those receiving care but also support the health and safety of the caregiving staff.
“As the CEO of Compass Hospice, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for this support,” said Heather Guerieri, CEO of Compass Regional Hospice. “These new beds will make a remarkable difference in our day-to-day operations, ensuring that our staff can work more safely and efficiently, while also improving the comfort and well-being of our patients. This grant truly underscores our dedication to creating a nurturing and secure environment for everyone at our center.”
Lorrie Foy, Barnette Center Manager, adds, “We are incredibly grateful to have received the RMC Grant, which has enabled Compass Regional Hospice to purchase ten new state-of-the-art beds for the Barnette Center. This generous support marks a significant advancement in our commitment to providing exceptional care. The new beds will greatly enhance comfort for our patients and improve safety for both patients and staff, reinforcing our mission to deliver compassionate and high-quality hospice services.”
The Rural Maryland Council’s mission is to bring attention and resources to the challenges faced by rural communities throughout Maryland. Through its funding initiatives, RMC aims to strengthen rural health care services, infrastructure, and community well-being.
This grant represents Compass Regional Hospice’s ongoing commitment to improving facilities and ensuring that patients in Queen Anne’s, Kent, and Caroline counties receive the best possible care.
