UM Shore Regional Health Hosts Service Challenge

EASTON, Md. (March 13, 2026) – University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UM SRH), a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), hosted a service challenge for team members from mid-January through February in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. UM SRH teams were invited to participate in any service event benefiting our local communities.

“We are deeply grateful to team members and departments for participating in the challenge,” said Katie Halen, VP Human Resources, Shore Regional Health. “Caring for others is more than our profession - it is our responsibility to build healthier, stronger communities.”

Eight departments, along with senior leadership, participated through fundraising and donations to local non-profits:

§ Birthing Center – collected baby supplies for families in need through their Dreaming Big for Babies campaign. The team collected diapers, wipes, clothing, car seats, portable cribs, blankets and bath supplies!

§ Chestertown Surgical Services – participated in a collection of animal shelter supplies for the Kent County Humane Society.

§ Easton Emergency Department – promoted and participated in Talbot County Empty Bowls, raising money for local food pantries.

§ Inpatient Behavioral Health – hosted a clothing drive to benefit the unit’s donation closet, which is used to provide appropriate clothing that is lacking at the time of discharge.

§ Patient Access – donated items needed by young moms to Young Life.

§ Rehabilitative Services – collected and donated supplies for the Talbot County Senior Supply Drive.

§ Senior Leadership – collected and donated approximately 40 coats to Neighborhood Service House.

§ SMG Cardiology - provided clothing and hygiene items for shelter residents at Talbot County Interfaith Shelter

§ HR/Employee Health –created and distributed to local resources over 100 Blessing (Hygiene) Bags for the homeless.
